Sunset at Breakwater, CCP Grounds

My very first sunset shoot for the year.

It's been almost half of the month of April, yet I was only able to have a sunset shoot just a week ago.

Taken last April 8, 2011 at the said area near Gloria Maris restaurant.

Here's my other snaps...

Tour of the Fireflies 2011 - The Dress Rehearsal

We at Advocacy Photographers, were again granted permission to cover the said tour for the second straight year. The tour will be held this coming Sunday (Palm Sunday also), April 17. I am supposed to be in the list last year, but had to beg-off due to some important matters to attend to. And this time, I had to blocked my calendar for this so I wouldn't miss it.

And just last Sunday (10 April 2011), we started documenting the trial run/dress rehearsal in preparation of the actual tour.

Allow me to share some snaps that I took from that activity.

Street Soccer Shelter for Change Program

From this site.

The players of Team Philippines to the Homeless World Cup have proven themselves that they not only have the skills to play, compete, and excel; they also have a testimony to share. The way their lives were changed because of a once in a lifetime opportunity given to them also triggered their passion to help change the lives of others, especially among the youth.

Mark Rosales, part of the team who went to Milan in 2009 has been teaching the love and discipline of soccer to the troubled youth of Boys Town Center. It is also true with the Pasion twins Abdula and Hammid of the 2010 squad who went to Brazil; the dynamic duo has been teaching soccer to their fellow marginalized boys in their hometown in Pagsanjan, Laguna. All of the 2010 players went to a community in Smokey Mountain to teach soccer to the kids being helped by Gawad Kalinga.

While most football clinics require fees, starting this March, the players of Team Philippines to the Homeless World Cup will be teaching soccer to 200 youth every weekend for free!

The “Street Soccer Shelter for Change Program” will pilot in ten communities in Quezon City. With the help and support of Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte, we are proud to announce that Quezon City embraced this program and is now the new home of street soccer.

The youth that the players from the Homeless World Cup will be teaching came from disadvantaged families in Quezon City; and this activity promises to be fruitful as they will be in one “home field,” one team united, wherein both the players and the trainers can easily relate to each other as they came from the same background. They will get the chance to learn and enjoy the sport, in a country where it is usually played by the upper class of the society.

"New" babies

Errr... Rather, new babies of my Pentax K100D dSLR camera. ;-P

And they're the miniature Pentax K-x keychains only. Bleh! :D

I've long heard (trans: read) of these from the mailing list of PiPen. And they're also one of the reasons why me & my daughter went to SM Megamall's Toy Kingdom as per this blog entry.

Sadly I wasn't able to acquire any during that time, as according to some personnel there, that they were already ran out of items few days right after they've displayed them. I tried going back and forth to where the vending machine of capsule toys are located, thinking that I only missed it. But still to no avail... :(

And last couple of days, I read that they're available again at Toy Kingdom. So yesterday afternoon after my office work, off I went to Megamall. True enough! They're very much available but they were at least less than 20 pieces. But I'm not getting all of them anyway... :D

Along the way I've already had plan to get 3 (for me, my wife & my daughter), so I bought 6 pieces of token (2 tokens per item) worth Php300.00. At first, I got the silver/gray one. Next was the blue. On the supposed to be third attempt, I stopped momentarily and this thought came in my mind, "what if on my third try, I get the same color as the first 2? what will I do with it?".

I went away from that area and went elsewhere nearby. When I came back, I saw two college female students heading to the direction of the same place where the vending machine is located. I heard one of the girls saying how nicely cute the keychains were. And I though I'm the one they were talking to. Hahahahaha.

Still no plans of getting my third item as of that moment, I asked them if they were also getting some and what color they want. They answered me they want the black one. The same color I want to get also. How ironic! Hahahaha. I even offered them that they try their luck first and see what color they'll get & I'll just trade the other color I already had or might get as long as they get the black or even the pink one (for my daughter). But they told me to try my luck instead and they went away. Whammy!!! :D

Just as soon as they turned their back, I then tried for my third item and got the green one. And I said to myself, that's enough! At least I got 3 different colors.

Should I still want the black one or some other color? Hmmm... Let's see! ;-P

By the way, here's some other pics...

The first 3 pictures were all taken by my Pentax K100D while the rest were all taken by Pentax Optio H90.

V-Day at TGIF

2011 Hearts Day!

Me & wifey had a simple celebration that day. We just ate dinner at TGIF's Glorietta branch, and that's it! The celebration we had is soo simple that we didn't even have any gifts for each other. Not a single rose or flower for her. Hehehehe...

We both came from reporting from our respective work that day, and thus we're only able to free our schedules after office hour. Until the time that we met (she came all the way from their office in Laguna), I haven't had any idea on where we will have our dinner. We just decided right there and then that we'll just eat at TGIF as it's the nearest resto on where we met.

While inside and waiting for our orders, I took some snaps of her.

Then dinner came... We asked the waitress to take some pics before we feast on our meal.

Burp!!!

And now the dessert...

The mud pie dessert!

Now I'm craving again to eat at TGIF...

Here's the complete album. All pictures were taken by Pentax Optio H90.

And given a chance this time, we wouldn't want to miss at least a single Saturday (or a couple) most importantly the last Saturday (March 12) where our host country will perform with Australia.

To co-photographer; fellow camera hobbyists & enthusiasts, fellow club members and others I know, hope we can bump & see each other. See you! (crossing fingers...)

Optio WG-1 and WG-1 GPS rugged cameras, limited edition K-5 DSLR

Who woulda thunk it? Half a year ago, finding a conventional point-and-shoot with integrated GPS was a chore, but these days, it's growing tougher and tougher to find one without it. Pentax is joining the geotagging frenzy this evening with its Optio WG-1 GPS, a rugged 14 megapixel shooter that's waterproof up to 33 feet, shockproof in nature and engineered with a "crushproof" body that can withstand weight force of up to 220 pounds (but not another Black Eyed Peas halftime show). You'll also get integrated face detection technology, the ability to snap in sub-freezing temperatures, a 5x optical zoom lens and a 2.7-inch rear LCD. There's also a 720p movie mode, HDMI output, IR control compatibility and support for Eye-Fi's wireless SD card. It'll ship this April in black or yellow-green for $399.95, and if you're uncomfortable remembering where you took each and every photograph, the GPS-less Optio WG-1 will also be available (in black or purple) for $50 less.

From engadget.

And how nice looking this limited edition K-5 is...

Pair it with either of the Silver FA Limiteds like FA 31/1.8 AL ED Limited;

Then what would you got? A sweet combination!!! c",)

PWA 2011 - Day 5

Day 3 & 4 came to an end... We (together with my daughter) were about to go last Saturday (Day 3), but we were too tired from strolling inside SM Megamall's Toy Kingdom. Aside from strolling inside the Toy Kingdom, we also hopped from Building B to Building A then back again to Building B when my wife came. Anyways, there's another story on this that I'll make on my daughter's blog.

And now, the 5th day... Reporting for work as half-day today, I passed-by Glorietta before going to office. I'm really interested in getting the Terraclime 10 for my Pentax Optio H90 but for 2 consecutive days, the personnel from Vet Specialist Inc. always say that there's no discount on it for the price tag of Php 490.00. But lo and behold, when I asked them again this morning, they gave me a new price of Php 343.00. That's a 30% discount. Not bad! Not bad. Trully, "Patience is a virtue".

But I'm wondering... What if tomorrow, PWA 2011's, last day, they sell the same item with much more discount to let's say 40% or worse at half price? Hehehehe... :D

PWA 2011 - Day 2

Today is the 2nd day of this event. Yesterday, I was able to limit myself and was able to buy a single 8x12 picture frame only. And mind you, it's being sold at 50% discount! Hehehehe.

I might drop-by later (after office hours) and let's see what will happen...

20 January 2011

ONLY THE ENGLISH COULD HAVE INVENTED THIS LANGUAGE

We'll begin with a box, and the plural is boxes,
But the plural of ox becomes oxen, not oxes.
One fowl is a goose, but two are called geese,
Yet the plural of moose should never be meese.
You may find a lone mouse or a nest full of mice,
Yet the plural of house is houses, not hice.

If the plural of man is always called men,
Then shouldn't the plural of pan be called pen?
If I speak of my foot and show you my feet,
And I give you a boot, would a pair be called beet?
If one is a tooth and a whole set are teeth,
Why shouldn't the plural of booth be called beeth?

Then one may be that, and three would be those,
Yet hat in the plural would never be hose,
And the plural of cat is cats, not cose.
We speak of a brother and also of brethren,
But though we say mother, we never say methren.
Then the masculine pronouns are he, his and him,
But imagine the feminine: she, shis and shim!

Let's face it - English is a crazy language.
There is no egg in eggplant nor ham in hamburger;
neither apple nor pine in pineapple.
English muffins weren't invented in England.
We take English for granted, but if we explore its paradoxes,
We find that quicksand can work slowly, boxing rings are square,
And a guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig.

And why is it that writers write but fingers don't fing,
Grocers don't groce and hammers don't ham?
Doesn't it seem crazy that you can make amends but not one amend.
If you have a bunch of odds and ends
And get rid of all but one of them, what do you call it?

If teachers taught, why didn't preachers praught?
If a vegetarian eats vegetables, what does a humanitarian eat?
Sometimes I think all the folks who grew up speaking English
should be committed to an asylum for the verbally insane.

In what other language do people recite at a play and play at a recital?
We ship by truck but send cargo by ship.
We have noses that run and feet that smell.
We park in a driveway and drive in a parkway.
And how can a slim chance and a fat chance be the same,
while a wise man and a wise guy are opposites?

You have to marvel at the unique lunacy of a language
In which your house can burn up as it burns down,
In which you fill in a form by filling it out, and in which an alarm goes off by going on.

And, in closing, if Father is Pop,  how come Mother's not Mop?

AND IF PEOPLE FROM POLAND ARE CALLED POLES THEN PEOPLE FROM HOLLAND SHOULD BE HOLES AND THE GERMANS, GERMS
I just saw this e-mail in one of a mailgroups I'm into while cleaning some unwanted e-mails .

For The Kids 2011

Thanks for this Andrew Pamorada!

The FTK is an annual mini-Olympics made especially for children with special needs like Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Mentally Retarded (MR), Autism (AU), Low Vision/Blind (LV), Deaf, Cerebral Palsy (CP), and Down Syndrome (DS). Back in 1986, it began as a small project organized by the DLSU-Center for Social Concern and Action (COSCA) in partnership with the University’s Physical Education Department. They pulled off the first event with 50 participating kids from different centers and SPED schools.

I wasn't able to join last year activity. So I said to myself that I wouldn't miss it this time.

The pics;

More from here.

Hope to see some of these kids again next FTK 2012!

PhotoWorldAsia 2011

It's just only a week before this happens.

From PhotoWorldManila.com.
PhotoWorld Asia 2011 will be held from January 27 to February 1 at the Glorietta Activity Center for the trade show, and at the Asian Institute of Management in Makati for the educational convention.
Guest speakers include master portraitist Hanson Fong and Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom expert Julieanne Kost of the United States, Canadian travel photographer Stuart Dee and Triston Yeo of Singapore.
The distinguished Filipino speakers include Dr. Vicente Pido (The Doctor is INto Photography), Kris Fabi Carlos (“Amorsoloesque”), Emil Davocol and Paul Yan with a slideshow of inspirational images, Rudy Fontanilla (Portraiture), John Chua (Advocacy Photography) and Niccolo Cosme (Fashion Photography). Dieter Nicolai and Phillip Kim of Germany will also make an exposition about B+W Filters.

Some shops from "Hidalgo" are showcasing their  products for this almost week-long activity. So for those who want to buy from them, need not to travel to Quiapo  and worry some "scary moments" that they've read & circulating from some forum sites.

Other people were saying that this event is "money-magnet". You be the judge! ;-P

My PPG Collections

I think this blog entry can serve as a prelude...

At the end of 2010, I was able to have a total of 7. I was aiming to make it at least 10 but wasn't able to make the cut. Anyhow, 7 is still 7!!! Lucky number too, as they say. So I do hope that this 2011, would be much luckier year for me. :-)

Anyways, here's the pics;

and lastly, my 7th PPG

Thanks for viewing! Hopefully I can make some updates here in the coming days, weeks or months to come. ;-P
